Background

The word Taxonomy is taken from the Greek ταξινομία (taxinomia) from the words taxis = order and nomos = law. For example the hierarchy of host-level storage management includes disk devices, disk/volume managers and file systems. Each has a set of underpinning principles that further extend the hierarchy. There is a natural order followed within the hierarchy, for example, storage must exist before it can be managed by a host level aggregation function and/or presented to the user. Each portion functions within laws or limits set by parameters.
